“Castle Between the Hills” animation (updated) by Michael Bonanno

This was an experiment to see if I could recreate the Castelo Dos Mouros in Sintra, Portugal by way of taking screen shots of the images shown of the site by Google Earth Pro. The data/textures didn’t turn out to be too detailed, but it did give a good basic layout of the forms – of which I used ZBrush to sculpt all of the rocks (397 of them that are shown from this angle). I’m sure you can guess the rest by looking at the software I’ve listed.

Background matte painting with foreground projection of hillside. Combination of 3d renderings, photography, camera projection, photogrammetry, and Nuke color correction. Background matte painting was rendered with Redshift and Arnold. The hill on the right was put together and rendered with Clarisse.
