Character Supervisor – Axis Studios – Glasgow

The Character Supervisor will be an expert in their specialist area. At a project level the Supervisor will oversee teams, providing technical and artistic leadership across multiple projects when required as well as managing the day to day production needs. You will be able to demonstrate the ability to participate as a leader and hands-on contributor through all stages of production.

Supervisors are also expected to engage in line management tasks alongside the Head of Department. Helping to manage the performance of the artists on the projects as well as interviewing and assessing recruitment candidates decisions for the department.

You should be a personable, proactive, self starter who can motivate and lead the team around you. You should provide creative and technical solutions that not only reach our client and personal quality expectations, but also push commercial results.

Department Responsibilities

  • Line managing the Character team
  • Improving Quality of Artistic Output of the Character team
  • Training and Developing the Character team
  • Improving Pipeline and Process with Department Head
  • Working with Department Head to Resource the best talent possible
  • Informing Resource Plans and Task Assignment
  • Informing Estimates and Bidding on projects

Project Responsibilities

  • Producing high quality assets suitable for production both technically and artistically
  • Managing a team of artists, keeping them on track and motivated
  • Supporting a team of artists with any technical problem solving
  • Technical and quality control of output on assigned project
  • Ensuring assets meet specifications provided by all relevant departments
  • Managing feedback and technical challenges on project alongside the CG Supervisor and Department Heads
  • Liaising with production on task assignment and scheduling of the team
  • Interpreting and communicating the directors feedback and vision to the team

Requirements

  • Good communication skills and ability to work constructively with other departments to solve production challenges
  • The ability to confidently Lead and Manage a team of artists
  • Ability to feedback to other departments and direct any technical changes
  • Accomplished examples of Modelling, Texturing and Shading
  • Expert knowledge of facial blendshape modelling
  • Thorough knowledge of Modelling package of your choice is essential
  • Thorough knowledge of Zbrush and/or Mudbox is essential
  • Thorough knowledge of Mari and/or Bodypaint 3D, Substance Painter or other 3D texturing software is essential
  • Knowledge of Python, C++, VEX is desirable
  • Basic understanding of Lighting and Look Development
  • Willingness to learn SideFX Houdini workflow
  • Proven production experience within a team min. 5 years
