Lead Level Artist [Anno] (f/m/d) – Ubisoft – Mainz

Job Description

Anno offers its players a rich city-building experience with a highly customizable sandbox mode and story-based campaign. With Anno 1800, our team has just released the series’ fastest selling installment to date and is now looking for a talented Lead Level Artist to join us at Ubisoft Mainz. In this hands-on role you will guide your team in the creation of beautiful, AAA environments for the Anno franchise.

Your main tasks are to:

  • Lead and mentor the level art team and support them in the creation of workflows, techniques and AAA content
  • Work closely with Game Design, R&D and Art to ensure that all level art content is in line with the project’s artistic vision, technical guidelines and quality standards
  • Inspire, motivate, and mentor other artists in both technical and artistic areas
  • Maintain effective communication within the team to ensure everyone’s alignment with the project’s objectives
  • Provide regular reviews and feedback to team members in clear and constructive manner
  • Encourage creativity, participation and effective collaboration of all team members
  • Maintain a close working relationship with your direct manager, producers, leads, directors and other teams to push project quality
  • Actively participate in the constant improvement of work methods and pipelines
  • Help recruit new team members and plan the team’s strategic growth and development


  • Minimum 8 years of experience in the games industry working as an artist; including at least 2 years of management experience
  • Strong artistic skills and extensive experience in 3D art or level design (ideally both), experience with cutscenes and camera sequences is a plus
  • Thorough understanding of overall content design processes; including areas such as level design, 3D asset creation and game design
  • Effective planning and organizational skills with the ability to think strategically
  • Able to drive change and inspire others to generate new ideas
  • Excellent communicator with strong verbal and written English skills
  • Team player with a positive, problem-solving attitude and a superior motivation to create high quality content
